Frequently Asked Questions

General:

What are the shop hours?  The shop is open for shopping from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm.
Consignments are accepted or may be taken out between 10:00am and 3:00pm.

Can I return something I bought?  No, All sales are final. We don’t accept returns. Any electronics and other items worth $5.00 or more can be taken on approval. Items must be returned the following week in “good as new” condition with the tags attached. If not brought back then or the tag has been removed or altered, the item is yours. There will be no approvals the week before the half price sales.

When is the shop closed?  The shop is closed the Wednesday before Thanksgiving, the Wednesday before New Year’s Day and when Sherborn schools are closed for SNOW.

When is the half price sale?   At the end of each session, we hold a Half Price Sale. Items not sold will be given to charity.

Consignment:

How many items may I consign?   You may have up to 15 items in the shop. You may bring in up to 10 items, per code, the 1st week, 5 items the second week; for a total of 15.  After that you may bring in items to replace those that have sold.

How do I remove consigned items or change my prices?  Take your item/s and card to a staff member in the check in room.  You may lower your price, not raise it.

How and when can I get my money?  You collect your money from the Registrar’s Desk in the check-in room.  Your money is available the week after your item/s sell and may be picked up at your convenience. You must collect your money within 12 months of the end of the shop’s fiscal year in which you sold the items. Funds not collected will revert back to the shop.   IE.: Money for items sold between January 2022 & December 2022 must be picked up by December 2023.

What if I don’t want my items to sell for half price?  You may remove your items anytime between 10am and 3pm the week before the half price sale.

What if I don’t want my items to be given to charity after the sale?  You may remove your items only between 11am & 3pm on the half price sale day.

What do you accept?     The Good as New Shop accepts the following, provided that they are in ‘good as new’ condition.  Think: Would you give it as a gift? or Would you want it as a gift?

  • Clothing and accessories for women, men and children
  • Purses, wallets, and cosmetic cases
  • Certain small seasonal sports equipment
  • Games & puzzles
  • Small appliances, kitchen and household items
  • Linens, curtains, bedspreads, dust ruffles, towels, bed spreads, blankets
  • Tablecloths, place mats, doilies, table runners & napkins
  • Fabrics, yarn and craft materials
  • Books, CDs and DVDs (sell separately, do not bundle)
  • Bric-a-brac, small antiques, jewelry and knick-knacks
  • Pictures, art work and mirrors (No larger than 18” x 24”)
  • Silk flowers, pots and vases
  •  quilt racks

What is not accepted?    The Good As New Shop does not accept anything that is worn out, out of season, chipped, broken, dirty, has the name of a resort, business, fundraiser, road race, advertisement or political candidate.

We also do not accept:

Ashtrays, audio tapes,  baskets, bathing suits, bed pillows, boots, briefcases, bundled books, car seats, cell phones, condensed books, cosmetics, dried flowers, duffels, encyclopedias, food, furniture, golf bags, helmets, liquids, luggage, mattresses, men’s suits, pajamas, perfumes, plants, plastic flowers, sewing patterns, shoes, skis, slippers, sneakers, snowboards, socks, stuffed animals, suit cases, telephones, textbooks, toys, typewriters, underwear, VHS tapes, water bottles.

The Good as New Shop, the Unitarian Universalist Area Church and the Staff are NOT responsible for loss by fire, flood, or theft.  All items are left at the owner’s risk.
